Judy Murray, his mother, spearheaded a £20 million proposal to commemorate the Murray family’s tennis heritage at Park of Keir by constructing a community multisport facility.
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) contributed £5 million to the project, but activists objected, arguing that land designated for green belts shouldn’t be used for construction.
The Murray Play Foundation, Judy Murray’s charity, announced that it will no longer proceed “with deep regret and sorrow”.
According to a representative for the organization, Judy has spent a lot of time over the past 12 years and has mostly faced resistance and apathy.
She persisted, though, along with her team, until a number of circumstances made the project untenable in its existing shape.
“We no longer plan to seek a detailed planning consent on the site at Park of Keir.”
The project was abandoned because of significant increases in construction and energy costs, a protracted planning process, and continuous negotiations with regulating agencies.
