One of the two ladies, Gou Tingting, uploaded a video of herself bringing the girl into the cubicle, and the incident quickly went popular on the Chinese internet.
She claimed in her article that she was attempting to assist others on board, but she quickly faced criticism.
Later, the airline claimed that the two women had been given permission by the girl’s grandmother to “educate her”.
On August 24, on a Juneyao Airlines flight from Guiyang, in the southwest, to Shanghai, an incident occurred.
The young child, who was flying with her grandma, had begun to cry during the journey.
Two days after the event, the airline released a statement stating that the girl’s grandmother, who was traveling with her, had consented to allow two women to accompany her to the bathroom.
According to a video that Ms. Gou shared on Chinese social media, the other woman told the girl that she could only leave the cubicle if she stopped weeping.
She was one year old, according to accounts in the local media; the airline has not provided any information.
Reaction to the video was immediate, with many accusing Ms. Gou of being empathetically weak and of “bullying” the child.
