Egypt is where US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will conclude his most recent Middle East tour.
Blinken is currently on his fourth tour of the Middle East, having already traveled to Bahrain, Greece, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Israel, and the West Bank since the start of the Gaza conflict.
The most recent tour was characterized by analysts as an attempt at “face-saving,” as Blinken attempted to balance his attempts to influence Israel while remaining silent about any genuine leverage.
As quickly as possible, we want this war to stop, Blinken said to reporters on Tuesday.
However, three months into the conflict, an “endgame” is still elusive, according to Michael Schaeffer Omer-Man, Democracy’s director of research on Israel and Palestine.
