Just before one in the morning on Saturday, the bus collapsed on a major road near Bovina in Warren County, killing several people, including a six-year-old boy and his sixteen-year-old sister.
The heavily damaged red bus with shattered windows along one side was visible in photos taken at the scene.
A pink coat-like item and other passenger possessions were visible hanging out the side of the bus.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol reported that six of the passengers on Interstate 20 were declared dead at the spot.
In the hospital, another traveler passed away. Thirty-seven individuals were transported to hospitals in Jackson and Vicksburg.
The majority of the bus’s occupants, according to Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey, were Latin Americans.
It’s thought that no other car was involved.
“Anytime you have people injured or killed, it’s tragic, but when you have a situation like this where you have multiple fatalities and multiple injuries, it makes it even worse,” Martin Pace, the sheriff of Warren County, told the news.
