The Miami Dolphins wide receiver was seen in a video that was uploaded to social media on Sunday, lying face down on the ground and surrounded by four police officers.
He was handcuffed and had his hands behind his back by the police during the altercation near Miami Gardens, Florida’s Hard Rock Stadium.
The Dolphins defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 20–17, and Hill, 30, who called the situation “crazy,” was freed in time to play.
He scored a game-winning touchdown in the second half on an 80-yard pass, and he celebrated by putting his hands behind his back.
One of the officers engaged in the incident, who has not been identified, has been placed on administrative responsibilities while the investigation is ongoing, according to a statement from Director Stephanie Daniels of the Miami-Dade Police Department. The force is currently evaluating the event.
While traveling to the game, some supporters witnessed the incident and recorded it on camera; the video rapidly gained popularity on social media.
The internal investigation, according to Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, “will answer questions about why the troubling actions shown in public video footage were taken by the officer.”.
