Indian forces attacked during the night in an attempt to take Lahore during the Battle of Lahore.
The attack failed despite the 15th Indian Infantry Division’s best efforts, which greatly infuriated the Indian High Command.
General Niranjan Prasad of India was ordered to the front lines to evaluate the situation after the attacks failed. Major General Prasad moved in the direction of the BRB Canal at Wagah without knowing the real circumstances.
The Indian general left the scene in a confused state, leaving his flagged jeep and star plate behind. Maps and military plans were taken by Pakistani forces along with the general’s car.
Major General Niranjan Prasad’s Jeep is currently on display at the Army Museum after being preserved.
