On Wednesday night, the category two hurricane made landfall in Louisiana. It brought with it strong gusts and heavy rainfall that resulted in flooding and the loss of electricity to almost a quarter of a million properties.
A car was being driven into floodwater by Jonah Gilmore, a reporter for WDSU, a New Orleans-based television station, while he was live on air.
“We saw the pickup truck going into the canal underpass from the opposite direction… going against traffic… when this area was blocked off,” he claimed.
The terrified reporter called out to a passing policeman about how the water was “coming up so quickly”; however, just as he was pointing out the situation, a kind stranger noticed the automobile and decided to help by approaching it with a hammer.
Viewers were informed by Mr. Gilmore, “You can see that guy breaking the [vehicle’s] window.”
Then the video showed a man’s head poking through the crack in a rear door window.
Before firefighters arrived at the site, Miles Crawford, the savior, eventually guided the motorist to safety.
