After continuing discussions with legal experts, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is still unsure about the 41 reserved seats held by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
It was announced on Friday at a meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja that a final decision could not be made today. The ECP will meet again on Monday to continue discussing the issue.
The legal team told the commission that the Supreme Court’s earlier decisions on the reserved seats were no longer really relevant in relation to these seats because of changes made to the Elections Act. It also informed the gathering that the PTI was not eligible for the reserved seats and that its name was not even on the roster of the National Assembly at the time.
