The police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district stopped a terrorist attack on the Peezo police station, they said Geo News on Tuesday.
The terrorists opened fire and tried to blow up the police station with hand grenades, but the attack was stopped, according to the authorities.
The attackers fled after the police opened fire in retaliation, according to the police, who also stated that no casualties were reported.
According to the police, an attempt to storm the Gundi Chowk’s 15 Police post was also foiled early in the morning.
Since the Taliban-led government gained office, KP has seen an alarming increase in terror strikes over the past few years, with numerous significant incidents leaving the province rife with bloodshed and terrorism.
In several areas of KP, particularly the southern districts, the state of law and order has deteriorated due to a rise in attacks on law enforcement, security personnel, and civilians.
In recent months, terrorists have assaulted security forces, including the military and police, as well as political personalities and rallies in specific regions of the province.
While attempts were being made to enhance law and order in the southern districts of KP, senior police officials stated that other sections of the province have seen an improvement in the situation.
The military has been active in fighting terror groups and terrorists, especially in KP, as the nation approaches the pivotal general election that is scheduled for February 8.
In two operations last week in the region, security forces killed four militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Mir Ali, North Waziristan district.
It should be mentioned that there were up to 586 terror acts in 2023, of which 17% were attributed to terrorist organizations that are outlawed, including Daesh, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
In the meantime, 537–545 outlaws were killed in 197 operations carried out by security forces against them.
