In five hours, forty-one minutes, and forty-eight seconds, Andy Donaldson accomplished the feat; the new record is awaiting confirmation.
The 33-year-old broke Oliver Wilkinson, the previous record holder, by two minutes when he finished the 45.9-kilometer globe on Thursday.
The previous record was set by Mr. Wilkinson in 2011.
West Kilbride, North Ayrshire native Mr. Donaldson began the challenge at two in the morning local time.
The swim passes through the East, Harlem, and Hudson rivers and is customarily finished counterclockwise.
Throughout the entire loop, swimmers may see the spectacular skyline of New York, which includes the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center.
In order to navigate through currents as strong as four knots, Mr. Donaldson needed the assistance of a knowledgeable team.
He said that his achievement of a top speed of 12 kph was entirely dependent on their accuracy.
This was one of Mr. Donaldson’s hardest tasks to date, both psychologically and physically.
We needed to time everything just right to have a chance at the record because the tides in the three rivers affected the swim.
