The Government of Punjab Initiatives (GPI) and Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) conducted an award ceremony recently to commemorate the end of the government’s massive canal cleaning campaign. Officials that performed very well during the operation were honored at the ceremony.
When the plan was first introduced in January 2024, it encompassed 22,000 kilometers of irrigation networks in Punjab, effectively irrigating 1.3–1.4 million acres of land. In order to guarantee successful cleaning, GPI and LUMS collaborated closely with the irrigation department and used drones and satellite technologies.
Together with the Secretary of Irrigation, Chief and Executive Engineers from all around the province, the Punjab Irrigation Minister was the chief guest of the event.
