At a Tuesday fringe event for the party conference, the Tory leadership candidate asserted that certain government officials have been “leaking official secrets” and “undermining ministers”.
Dave Penman, general secretary of the FDA union that represents federal officials, reacted angrily to her remarks, saying that “action would have been taken” if she had any evidence to support them.
According to a close personal source, Ms. Badenoch’s remarks “were a joke” to News.
Ms Badenoch made the statements during an event held by the Spectator magazine, when she was asked for her views on decreasing the number of civil officials.
In her words, “they come in to do a job, just like everyone else,” and “about 10% of them are absolutely magnificent.”
She continued, saying that between five and ten percent of them were extremely wicked and ought to be incarcerated. It’s upsetting that they are, you know, disclosing government secrets and undermining their ministers.
She continued: Usually headed by the union, I had some of that in my department.
Still, most of them really want to do well, and the better ones get very annoyed with the worse ones.
