It has been 19 years since the catastrophic earthquake that struck Pakistan on October 8, 2005, which rocked Kashmir, the country’s capital Islamabad, and several other areas.
With the tremendous 7.6-magnitude earthquake wreaking unheard-of devastation, the morning of October 8, 2005, was for many people nothing less than a scene of resurrection.
A memorial service was conducted at University College Ground in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, one of the hardest-hit localities, to honor those who perished in the tragedy.
Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, the prime minister of Azad Kashmir, presided over the ceremony and paid respect to the victims. After the siren went off, there was a minute of silence while a police detachment visited the victims’ memorial.
