The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has come under fire from the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) for sending “illegal” show-cause notices to multiple TV channels for reporting on the most recent terrorist attack in Karachi. The AEMEND called this “an attempt to pressurize the media.”
The media organization stated that show-cause notes “aimed at imposing illegal censorship” on TV stations and that as a result of Pemra’s decisions, TV networks were subject to both publicized and unannounced restrictions.
