The man, who is said to be in his 30s, was discovered in Barking with a gunshot wound just after 4.30am, prompting the opening of a murder investigation.
Despite receiving treatment from emergency personnel, he passed away on the spot.
Following allegations of a man being hurt on Linton Road, police were summoned. There is a crime scene.
According to the Metropolitan Police, no one has been taken into custody.
Officers were “working diligently to piece together the events that has led to this shooting and identify who is responsible,” according to Acting Detective Chief Superintendent Lewis Basford.
According to the senior officer, there will be more police presence in the neighborhood, and anyone with knowledge is encouraged to come forward.
