On Saturday, the draft of the constitutional amendment by the ruling coalition was finally made public. The previous day, the Pakistan Peoples Party had revealed its draft, which called for the creation of federal and provincial constitutional courts.
The federal constitutional court will have seven members, including two senior judges and a chief justice, as per the proposed change.
According to the draft, the prime minister’s recommendation would be used by the president to select the Federal Constitution Court’s first chief justice.
On the basis of committee recommendations, the first chief justice and three senior justices would be appointed. Four members of Parliament, the federal law minister, and a Pakistan Bar Council representative will sit on the committee.
