McDonald’s removed the Quarter Pounder burger from its menu in stores in twelve states on Wednesday as it rushed to limit the harm caused by an E. coli outbreak connected to the burger that has killed one person and infected almost fifty others.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is looking into the outbreak, reports that it has afflicted people throughout the US West and Midwest and that 10 people have been hospitalized as a result of significant complications. According to a McDonald’s representative, the incident is only occurring in the US.
CDC spokesperson Tom Skinner stated, “We fully expect to see more cases.” “McDonald’s has taken swift action in the hopes of preventing as many cases as possible.”
