On Thursday morning, criminal organizations engaged in combat in a mountainous area of Guerrero state.
As cartels look to increase their territory, the region has turned into a battlefield in recent years.
According to Mexico’s defense ministry, the attack also targeted local police, killing two policemen and injuring four more.
Eleven persons were apprehended, and the other fourteen deceased were presumably part of criminal organizations.
According to the defense ministry, three military officials were injured when the National Guard also reacted.
It occurs as Mexico has pushed Washington to take more action to stop the flow of firearms to criminals and the US has been pressuring Mexico to increase its efforts to combat drug trafficking.
