In July, he entered a guilty plea to one count of felony interference with law enforcement’s efforts to prevent a group of Trump supporters from storming the US Capitol.
After being suspected of rioting, Johnston, 56, who has Hollywood acting credits dating back to the mid-1990s, lost his job on the animated comedy Bob’s Burgers in December 2021.
Johnston’s attorneys countered that the US had “persistently overstated” the actor’s involvement in the attack, despite the prosecution’s request for a harsher prison term.
In a brief statement before his sentencing, Johnson called his involvement in the attack “reprehensible” before a courtroom in Washington, DC, according to News.
Judge Carl Nichols stated that Johnston’s participation was “all the more inexplicable and troubling” because of his successful acting career.
Authorities claim that Johnston “participated with other rioters in a group assault” on police officers guarding a Capitol entrance and “helped carry a stolen police riot shield out” based on CCTV and body camera footage.
That western entry resulted in the injuries of one police officer.
