Imane Khelif, an Algerian boxer and Olympic gold medallist, has come under renewed scrutiny after it was revealed in a report obtained by French journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia that Khelif has been diagnosed with 5-alpha reductase deficiency, a sexual development disorder that is usually found in genetic males.
According to reports, the medical records, which were allegedly prepared in June 2023 by Kremlin-Bicêtre Hospital in Paris and Mohamed Lamine Debaghine Hospital in Algiers, include an MRI showing that Khelif has no uterus and internal testicles in addition to a condition known as a “micropenis,” which is similar to an enlarged clitoris.
The report notes that in addition to the MRI results, Khelif also had hormone testing that revealed testosterone and a chromosomal test that confirmed she has an XY karyotype.
