MTG Criticizes Trump on Greenland Proposal
MTG criticizes Trump for his renewed push to acquire Greenland, arguing that the plan ignores serious problems at home. Former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, who left office earlier this year after breaking with Trump, says the proposal raises major financial and political concerns.
In a Tuesday post on X, Greene focused on the nation’s growing debt. She said the United States is nearing forty trillion dollars in debt while Social Security faces possible insolvency by 2033. Because of this, she questioned why leaders are not openly discussing the cost of taking control of Greenland.
Concerns About Cost and Priorities
Greene warned that Americans would likely shoulder the financial burden. She asked whether anyone has explained how much the move would cost taxpayers. In her view, the government should focus first on economic stability and retirement programs.
She also expressed frustration with how leaders frame the issue. Greene said claims made in the name of public safety deserve scrutiny. According to her, similar arguments have failed in the past and led to long term consequences.
Trump Defends National Security Argument
Despite the criticism, Trump continues to defend the idea. He says Greenland is critical to US national security because of its Arctic location. Trump has tied the plan to the Golden Dome defense system currently under development.
In recent Truth Social posts, Trump said China and Russia both want influence over Greenland. He argued that Denmark cannot prevent that pressure. He also claimed modern weapons systems make acquisition more urgent.
Trump framed the proposal as essential not only for the United States but also for global security. He has not clarified how far he would go to achieve that goal.
Division Within the Republican Party
MTG criticizes Trump at a time when divisions inside the Republican Party are growing. Once one of his strongest allies, Greene now challenges his endorsements and leadership decisions. She has accused party leaders of protecting political insiders.
Her opposition to the Greenland plan signals a clear policy split. As the debate continues, it raises broader questions about debt, defense spending, and national priorities.
