ISLAMABAD: Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid, the former director general (DG) of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), maintained communication with around fifty parliamentarians, the majority of whom were members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The extent of Hamid’s direct or indirect ties to PTI founder chairman Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, is being looked at.
According to knowledgeable sources, Hamid was prohibited from participating in any political activities for five years following his retirement date under the Army Act.
The previous ban was two years, but in 2023, the Army Act was amended to prohibit anyone who remained posted, employed, seconded, tasked, or otherwise attached to sensitive duties from engaging in any form of political action for five years.
