Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his optimism that the peace in the tense area will endure as the situation gradually improved following the recent peace agreement, as impacted areas of the Kurram district received a second shipment of necessities on Tuesday.
“Things are slowly getting better in Kurram. There was a significant setback following the peace deal, but [things are better now],” the prime minister informed his cabinet.
PM Shehbaz cited the setback, saying that Kurram Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud and several law enforcement officers were injured when unknown individuals opened fire on a government vehicle a day after the peace agreement was reached.
Aid trucks that were supposed to leave for the area affected by the crisis had been halted due to the attack.
