Pakistan rubbishes Wakhan Corridor annexation reports, says territory part of Afghanistan

Pakistan on Thursday called the Wakhan Corridor a part of neighboring Afghanistan and emphatically denied any annexation allegations. It did, however, restate the demand that the Afghan government take action against terrorist organizations that have safe havens on the other side of the border.

“I have witnessed this never-ending conjecture. Wakhan is located in Afghanistan. The adjacent country is Afghanistan. We acknowledge its territorial integrity and sovereignty. Pakistan has no intention of influencing one of its neighbors. In his first weekly news briefing, recently hired Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated, “I consider it speculative and completely incorrect in fact.”

He claimed that although both Pakistan and Afghanistan valued and wished to foster positive relationships, the main issue was the safe havens for terrorists.
