US Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared on Tuesday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan have committed genocide during the more than year-long civil war in Sudan.
After the genocide in Darfur in the early 2000s, which claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, this is the second genocide to occur in Sudan in less than thirty years.
Blinken said in a statement on Tuesday that the RSF and its affiliated militias “have deliberately targeted women and girls from certain ethnic groups for rape and other forms of brutal sexual violence,” “have continued to direct attacks against civilians,” and “systematically murdered men and boys—even infants—on an ethnic basis.”
