Panicked guests were forced to jump out of windows in the middle of the night Tuesday after a fire at a ski resort hotel in the Bolu mountains of Turkiye claimed 66 lives.
At the Kartalkaya ski resort in northwest Turkey, Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu reported that 51 people had been hurt.
According to police, the fire started on the restaurant floor of the eleven-story Grand Kartal Hotel at around 3:30 am (0030 GMT).
White bed linens were knotted together and hanging from one upper-story window where occupants tried to escape, and a number of fire trucks surrounded the burnt structure.
The fire occurs around the start of a two-week national school vacation, when skiers from neighboring Istanbul and Ankara typically travel to the Bolu mountains.
