The Solicitor General of the United Kingdom plans to appeal the life sentence given to Sara Sharif’s father.
Last month, Urfan Sharif and Beinash Batool, Sara’s stepmother, were sentenced to life in jail for causing the 10-year-old girl’s death via years of “horrific torture” and harsh abuse.
Batool was sentenced to 33 years, and Urfan was handed a minimum of 40 years. Faisal Malik, 29, Sara’s uncle, was also found guilty of causing or allowing her death and received a 16-year prison sentence.
Urfan’s sentence was deemed “unduly lenient” by Solicitor General Lucy Rigby, who referred it to the Court of Appeal.
