After months of negotiations, Russia and Iran have finally inked a “comprehensive partnership agreement” just three days before US President-elect Donald Trump arrives to the White House.
Even while the incoming US administration promises increased engagement with Russia, the move refocuses attention on a partnership that has defined the battlefield in Ukraine and is still dedicated to disrupting the US-led world order.
Russia and Iran have a complex history that is replete with war, and they continue to walk a tightrope between collaboration and suspicion. However, Moscow and Tehran have become closer as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.
