ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office stated Thursday that approximately 150 Pakistanis were trapped in the city of Goma as a result of the recent intensification of hostilities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
FO Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan stated in a statement that the Rwandan government has permitted the admission of stranded Pakistanis into Rwanda due to the active participation of Pakistan’s high commissioner in Kigali.
“Roughly 75 Pakistanis have migrated to Rwanda thus far,” he continued.
Goma, the seat of North Kivu province and a population of two million people, was taken over by M23 rebels on Monday.
In what appeared to be an effort to increase their sphere of influence, the rebels moved southward on Wednesday. They approached Kavumu, the location of Bukavu’s airport, after marching along the western shore of Lake Kivu.
