DUBAI: On election day in Oklahoma, Abdullah Haji Zada, an 18-year-old Afghan national and lawful permanent resident of the United States, entered a guilty plea to charges of obtaining weapons and ammunition to carry out a terror assault inspired by Daesh.
In a press statement on Thursday, the US Department of Justice affirmed his plea.
Court filings state that on behalf of Daesh, a recognized foreign terrorist organization, Haji Zada and his 27-year-old co-conspirator Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi purchased two AK-47-style rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition in order to carry out a terrorist assault on Election Day in November 2024.
