FAISALABAD: Researchers at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) have created a new breed of chicken that can lay more than 200 eggs a year, which is over three times the production of traditional native hens. This is a significant development for the nation’s poultry industry.
The Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB)-funded invention is a big step in the direction of fostering sustainable rural livelihoods and lowering reliance on imported poultry breeds.
UniGold is designed for backyard chicken production and thrives in low- to medium-input systems that are typical in central and southern Punjab, according to UAF’s Institute of Animal Sciences. It can withstand heat stress because of its low feeder load.
