On May 1, Labor Day is celebrated worldwide to honor the tenacity and triumph of workers who have battled for equitable pay, improved working conditions, and dignity.
Even while speeches and celebrations are held to commemorate this day, the daily wage workers who are at the center of this cause are sometimes ignored. Speaking with a number of these laborers in Pakistan reveals a sobering reality.
One employee talked about how they wait every day in the hopes that God will provide them with a job.
“Some days we find a job; other times we go without for five or six days,” he stated. “Occasionally, we get food from a nice person. We’re barely making ends meet.”
They cannot afford to take a day off, even if it is a worldwide holiday.
