The unilateral release of water into the Chenab River by Indian officials without prior notification to Pakistan has escalated tensions between the two countries, leading to accusations of “water terrorism,” according to Kashmiri media sources.
Media sites in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have reported that the Akhnoor sector, which is close to the Line of Control (LoC), is experiencing flooding as a result of the sudden water release. There are worries about possible flooding in downstream communities on both sides of the border due to the Chenab River’s allegedly constant rise in water level.
Pakistan has vehemently denounced India’s recent decision to suspend the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty as a breach of international law, which comes after this most recent development.
