WASHINGTON: On Monday, President Donald Trump brushed off criticism of an AI-generated image of him as pope that the White House shared on social media, claiming it was a harmless joke. However, communications experts said they failed to see anything amusing about it.
The artificial intelligence-generated pictures over the weekend that showed Trump wearing white papal garb and another of him brandishing one of the red light sabres that villains in the Star Wars movies favor seemed to be typical of the provocation the president uses to embolden supporters and harass detractors.
Since January 20, Trump has dominated news cycles since taking office again. The two pictures made sure Trump remained a hot subject on social media and beyond over an otherwise calm weekend.
