WASHINGTON: According to a message from the defense secretary, Pentagon head Pete Hegseth directed the US military to reduce the number of active-duty four-star generals and admirals by at least 20%.
Under President Donald Trump’s administration, which has already fired several top commanders this year, the action marks the most recent significant reorganization at the Pentagon.
The document also proposes a 20 percent reduction in the number of general officers in the National Guard and another 10 percent drop in the number of general and flag officers.
How the cutbacks would be made was not specified.
