Three UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) schools in Israeli-annexed East Jerusalem have been forced to close by armed Israeli security troops.
Shortly after classes started on Thursday morning, hundreds of Palestinian youngsters were sent home from the schools in the Shuafat refugee camp.
Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, accused Israeli authorities of a “blatant disregard of international law” and claimed that they were depriving children of their fundamental right to education.
Israel banned Unrwa earlier this year and claims that Hamas has infiltrated the organization. Unrwa disputes this assertion and maintains its objectivity.
