According to US President Donald Trump, the election of the nation’s first American pope is a “great honor” and he is eager to see him.
The historic appointment of Robert Francis Prevost, who will be known as Pope Leo XIV, to lead the Catholic Church has been praised by numerous American political personalities, including Trump.
When asked how he felt about the news, Trump responded, “To have the Pope from America is a great honor.”
Before serving as a missionary in Peru, Pope Leo, 69, studied at a university outside of Philadelphia after being born in Chicago.
