President Donald Trump once again expressed his disapproval of Russian leader Vladimir Putin for Moscow’s war in Ukraine on Sunday, announcing that Washington would provide Patriot air defense systems to Kyiv and implying fresh sanctions on Russia.
After announcing that he will make a “major statement… on Russia” on Monday, the US president now announced the much-needed weapons for Ukraine.
With Trump scheduled to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington on Monday and the US special envoy beginning his most recent trip to Ukraine, the announcement may coincide with a diplomatic frenzy.
Moscow has been waging an onslaught against Ukraine for over three years; this summer, the attacks have been more intense, and US-led talks to put a stop to the conflict have so far failed.
