Prior to the truce taking effect, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke by phone with important political figures to update them on Pakistan’s response to recent Indian aggression, as tensions with India had escalated earlier on Saturday.
The prime minister reportedly spoke with Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP); Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F); Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI); Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P); Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman; Khalid Magsi, the Balochistan Awami Party; and Chaudhry Salik Hussain, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).
