The Court of Appeal has heard that the wife of a Conservative councillor who was imprisoned for ranting online on the day of the Southport attacks last year “never” meant to provoke violence.
On July 29, Lucy Connolly of Northampton called for “mass deportation now” and encouraged her supporters to “set fire” to hotels that house asylum seekers.
She is contesting the two-year, seven-month sentence she received for her admission of inciting racial hatred.
In London, supporters protested outside the Appeal Court.
