Magnus Carlsen, a Norwegian grandmaster, predicted a draw in his continuing online match against more than 140,000 players in a historic matchup that pitted a single chess prodigy against an army of opponents from around the world.
“Magnus Carlsen vs. the World” was a unique freestyle chess match that matched the undisputed world number one against a collective called Team World. As the game got closer to eternal check, Carlsen, who rose to the top of the global rankings in 2011, said the match was leaning toward a stalemate.
“Right now we’re heading for a draw by perpetual check,” Carlsen stated. “I thought I was a little bit better, early in the opening, then maybe I didn’t play that precisely,” the grandmaster continued.
