Despite US President Donald Trump’s calls for a rapid ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia on Tuesday of postponing peace negotiations in an attempt to continue its three-year invasion.
After Russian and Ukrainian officials met in Istanbul on Friday for their first direct discussions on the issue in three years, Trump called Zelensky and Vladimir Putin on Monday.
Russia made no concessions during the phone call or the negotiations, and Putin has repeatedly turned down Kyiv’s and its Western partners’ offers of a 30-day truce.
In the midst of irritation in Kyiv and Washington over Russia’s apparent stalling, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized Tuesday that Trump had made no concessions to Putin.
