Hours before the two parties were scheduled to hold trade negotiations, the EU was warned. In order to give time for negotiations, Trump cut the 20% tariff he had set last month to 10% until July 8.
“Our discussions with them are going nowhere!” Trump stated in a social media post on Friday. He stated that on June 1st, the additional tariffs would go into effect.
The threat was not immediately addressed by the EU. It’s still unclear, according to analysts, if the rhetoric will materialize.
