French police were looking into a potential arson assault as the primary cause of the power outage that struck the southern French region of Alpes-Maritimes on Saturday, including Cannes, which is hosting its renowned annual film festival.
A spokesman for the French national gendarmerie stated, “We are looking into the likelihood of a fire being started deliberately,” but no arrests have been made as of yet.
Earlier on Saturday, the Alpes-Maritimes region’s local government announced that RTE France was trying to restore power to the western portion of the territory, which includes Cannes, which was experiencing a significant power loss.
According to the Cannes Film Festival, Saturday night’s closing event will proceed as scheduled.
