A month after the bloodiest fighting between the bitter rivals in decades, Indian police have arrested dozens of people for “sympathizing” with Pakistan, a senior government official said on Sunday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that “81 anti-nationals are now behind bars for sympathising with Pak” following the arrests in the northeastern state of Assam.
“Our systems are constantly tracking anti-national posts on social media and taking actions,” Sarma, a member of the Hindu nationalist ruling party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said in a statement.
Assam police informed AFP that one of the individuals was taken into custody after sharing a picture of a Pakistani flag on Instagram.
