Washington: According to The News on Wednesday, Paul Kapur, President Donald Trump’s choice for Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, has promised to work with Pakistan in the areas of security, bilateral commerce, and investment.
Speaking to the US Senate at a confirmation hearing, Kapur stated that he would look into prospects for bilateral economic and investment cooperation with Pakistan while pursuing security cooperation with the country.
Trump’s candidate, a US professor of Indian descent, stated, “If confirmed, I will continue to promote longstanding US security interests with Pakistan and India through the pursuit of peace and stability, and the fight against terrorism.”
His statements are made in light of his ardent support for strengthening India-US strategic ties.
