A doctor who committed dozens of rapes over nearly 20 years was given a 21-year prison sentence by a Norwegian court on Friday.
Between 2004 and 2022, Arne Bye, 55, was convicted of 70 charges of rape and sexual assault while performing gynecological exams on his patients. For 80 instances of abusing his authority, he was also censured.
Bye carried out the crimes at his medical office in the central Norwegian town of Frosta.
The Trondelag court ordered the doctor to pay his victims’ compensation and prohibited him from practicing medicine for an indeterminate period of time.
