TRIPOLI: The International Organization for Migration reports that two shipwrecks off the coast of Libya in the last week have killed at least 60 migrants, including Pakistanis.
The IOM said in a statement on Tuesday that only five survivors were located after the first ship went down on June 12 close to a Libyan port in Tripoli, leaving 21 people—including women and children—reported missing.
Among those drowned at sea were citizens of Sudan, Egypt, Pakistan, and Eritrea.
According to the UN agency, the only survivor of the second catastrophe, which occurred roughly 35 kilometers (20 miles) outside the coastal city of Tobruk, reported that 39 people had perished at sea.
