Washington: On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump demanded that Israel either pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or end his corruption trial, claiming that the US would save him in the same way that it had saved his nation.
In 2019, Netanyahu was charged with bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, all of which he disputes. The trial, which started in 2020, involves three different criminal cases. He entered a not guilty plea.
After learning that Netanyahu was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Trump commented on Truth Social, “Bibi Netanyahu’s trial should be CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY, or a pardon given to a great hero who has done so much for the State (of Israel).”
