LOS ANGELES: Two Iranian members of Pastor Ara Torosian’s Farsi-speaking congregation called him in distress on Tuesday, claiming that US federal immigration authorities were at their Los Angeles residence to make an arrest.
He has received two similar calls this week.
According to Torosian, an Iranian couple with a three-year-old was arrested on Monday while having a standard immigration appointment.
According to him, both families were newly arrived asylum seekers who had scheduled an appointment and arrived at the US-Mexico border.
Former US President Joe Biden established the appointment system, called CBP One, to encourage lawful border crossings. When he assumed office, President Donald Trump terminated the program as part of his harsh immigration policies.
